Miniature gallery
Bostonians in Miniature explores of the lives of Boston residents whose portraits were painted "in little" during the opening decades of the nineteenth century. Situating this popular form of art within the broader context of domestic life, inequality, and material culture, the exhibition focuses on six Boston couples, documenting how family, social class, and religion shaped the lives of those who sat for portraits. By linking lives and portraits, this rotation helps illuminate both the broader significance and personal meanings of this intimate form of portraiture.
