Master Drawings: 700 Years of Inspiration

This impressive exhibition features 100 carefully selected and rarely displayed works by European and American masters, including Vincent Van Gogh, Diego Rivera, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, and John SingerSargent.

Exceptional drawings in ink, chalk, and graphite as well as illuminated manuscripts, watercolors and pastels represent major trends of style and content throughout 700 years of Western art. Many of these fragile works have not been exhibited in 40 years!

Conceived as a compliment to the show Master Drawings: 700 years of inspiration, this exhibition includes a selection of about 60 drawings chosen for their beauty and distinction. Many of these works have not been on view for decades; others have recently been conserved and now appear with restored freshness and vitality.

Featured in the show are works by such Old Masters as Luca Cambiaso and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. There is also an interesting group of 19th-century British drawings, including works by John Flaxman, Edward Burne-Jone, and John Ruskin. A spectrum of American Drawings will be featured as well, including works by Martin Johnson Heade, Charles Demuth, and Robert Motherwell.
