Most familiar today for the portraits and decorative borders on paper money, engraving was for centuries the most refined and precise method of reproducing images. This exhibition explores processes of copperplate engraving, its history and changing roles in Western culture. Among the artists whose work will be included are the European old masters Albrecht Dürer and Hendrik Goltzius, and such later printmakers as Mary Cassatt and Stanley William Hayter.
