January 19, 2000 - Artist Begins Work
Mixed-media artist Annette Lemieux will create the third "Wall at Wam" entitled Two Vistas, thereby transforming the Worcester Art Museum's Renaissance Court. Conceived in response to the site and created during a three-week residency, the project will fill an expanse that measures 67 feet long and 20 feet high. Lemieux has exhibited internationally in the past two decades, and she is recognized for her sculptures, paintings, photographs and mixed-media installations. Lemieux focuses on the present by using historical icons. In the Worcester mural, she will use one of her recent photos of the sky, drawing from the history of illusionistic landscape.
Lemieux has a studio in Allston, and is a visiting lecturer on Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. Starting January 19, be sure to visit the Museum while Lemieux is creating her monumental mural. You are also invited to a reception for Lemieux on Sunday, February 13.
